Biggest BASSINTHEGRASS ever rocks Mindil Beach

NT Government

Thousands of people descended on Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach in what was the Northern Territory’s biggest music festival ever yesterday.

Music fans from across Australia made the pilgrimage to the Top End to make the most of 12 hours of non-stop music from the nation’s hottest acts, as well as winners of the BASSINTHEGRASS Territory Artists Competition.

Local and interstate event goers enjoyed Darwin’s clear blue skies and a stunning sunset, alongside the festival’s unique attractions and activations, including the BASS Beauty Bar, Illumination Station, Sunset Disco Beach Club, Live Street Art Site, Silent Disco and much more.

This year, festival attendees experienced a moving Welcome to Country, Saltwater Smoking Ceremony and special performance by the Belyuen dancers on the beach as the sun set.

As dark descended, the party atmosphere ramped up with the venue at capacity and Australian music royalty such as Dope Lemon, G Flip, The Teskey Brothers, Hilltop Hoods, Peking Duk and Hot Dub Time Machine rocking the stages.

The 2022 instalment of BASSINTHEGRASS sold out weeks in advance, with 16,000 tickets sold to music fans from across the country.

Early Bird tickets for next year’s BASSINTHEGRASS are now on sale for just $85 + booking fee. Snap up a bargain before they sell out. Once Early Bird tickets are gone, General Release will go on sale for $120 + booking fee. For tickets and more info, head to www.bassinthegrass.com.au [https://www.bassinthegrass.com.au/].

Quotes from Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory’s iconic all-ages music festival BASSINTHEGRASS has delivered once again, with a record-breaking crowd living it up at one of the Top End’s most iconic locations, Mindil Beach.

“Over the last few years BASSINTHEGRASS has evolved into a must-do on the national events calendar, and more and more interstaters are heading north. People on site said coming to BASS had become an annual pilgrimage for them, due to the amazing event experience and endless Top End summer. This is why we continue to develop the event and pride ourselves on delivering an even bigger and better festival for attendees each year.

“The more people travel from interstate to come to BASS, the better the results for our economy, on so many levels as the benefits trickle down. Planning has already begun for BASS 2023, so get ready for another epic event.”

Quotes from Vera Blue:

“It was one of my favourite shows to date, and despite the heat, the crowd was so energetic and we absolutely loved every second.”

Quotes from Xavier Rudd:

“What a crowd. What a vibe. It was a great place to reconnect with other artists after not seeing each other for so long during the COVID silence, and to do it here was a connective moment. I’ve always loved Darwin. It’s got its own kindamagic that keeps drawing me back. I’ve always loved the place and I’m gonna make sure I’m coming back this Dry.”
