Record number of recruits to be sworn into NT Police Force family, most in a decade.
Recruits to be sworn into four Police streams – Constables, Police Public Safety Officers, Accelerated Recruits and Frontline Auxiliary Officers transitioning to Constables.
Government continues to press forward on its commitment to support Police and unwind Labor’s crime crisis.
In a record intake, nearly 100 new recruits will be sworn into the ranks of the Northern Territory Police Force family today as the Finocchiaro CLP Government continues to unwind Labor’s crime crisis and create safer communities.
It will be the biggest swearing in of new recruits in the Territory in a decade.
Recruits will be sworn into four Police streams, including Constables, Police Public Safety Officers, Accelerated Recruits and Frontline Auxiliary Officers transitioning to Constables.
Among the recruits being sworn in are:
· 36 recruits from Recruit Constable Squad 164
· 19 recruits from the Police Public Safety Officer (PPSO) Squad 3
· 19 recruits from the Accelerated Recruit Program (ARP) Squad 6, and
· 18 recruits from the Frontline Auxiliary Transition to Constable Squad 2.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said the record swearing in demonstrated her Government’s ongoing commitment to reducing crime and creating safer communities.
“This record number of officers being sworn in shows that my Government is pressing forward on our commitment to reduce crime and create safer communities,” the Chief Minister said.
“My Government’s commitment to reducing crime, rebuilding the economy, and restoring the Territory lifestyle is as strong today as it was when we came to office in 2024.
“And community safety remains my CLP Team’s highest priority, underpinning every aspect of our agenda.”
Under the Finocchiaro CLP Government, crime has plummeted to 2017 levels, with 10,000 fewer offences and 3,400 fewer victims of crime
“Once these recruits complete their training and graduate in coming months, they will get on with the vital job of unwinding Labor’s crime crisis,” the Chief Minister said.
“That is why their training over the coming months is so essential, so that once they’ve graduated and hit the streets they can make an immediate impact in making the Territory the safe, secure, and prosperous place that we all expect and deserve it to be.
“A safer Territory creates the conditions for economic growth, stronger communities, and a better future protecting the Territory way of life that makes our home so special.”
The new recruits came from all over the Territory and Australia, as well as from countries including New Zealand, Vietnam, India and Zimbabwe.
“Many of you are deeply experienced policing professionals form different jurisdictions interstate or overseas, and many from within the NT Police Force’s own Frontline Auxiliary stream taking the next step in your careers,” the Chief Minister said.
“This is a significant moment in the lives of nearly 100 Territorians who have bravely answered the call to serve our communities as part of our Northern Territory Police family.”
The Chief Minister said there had never been a better or more exciting time to join the mighty Northern Territory Police Force.
“Since coming to Government, 259 new Police recruits have come on board across all streams and graduated, including Constables, PPSOs, and Auxiliaries – and at the same time, we have had the lowest attrition rate in five years,” the Chief Minister said.
“We have had 186 new constable recruits commence training and graduate, with a further 128 recruits currently in training at the Police College.
“In addition, 52 Police Auxiliaries have completed their training and graduated, and our first cohort of 21 PPSOs graduated in late June, with another 35 currently in training.”
