Bilateral agreements to support Australia’s emissions challenge

MCA welcomes Labor’s announcement to pursue bilateral arrangements with regional countries as part of the Paris Agreement.

Bilateral agreements provide the opportunity for low cost, credible and verifiable international offsets as well as pursuing action on environmental issues such as deforestation.

Australia’s emissions policy must recognise the high relative emissions intensity of our economy and the contribution we make to both economic development and the transition to lower emissions in our region.

MCA supports participation in global agreements such as the Paris Agreement, which would hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels

MCA continues to advocate a least cost approach to emissions must include the use international offsets along with Kyoto carry-over credits.

Australian businesses are working together to make our contribution to lowering emissions.
