Bayside is known of it’s 17km of foreshore and hectares of open space, characteristics that lend themselves to a strong biodiverse environment.

Biodiversity Blitz

We’re partnering with nine councils to see who can record the most species in iNaturalist during Biodiversity month. By participating you’ll learn about local plants and wildlife, whilst contributing to citizen science and highlighting Bayside’s amazing biodiversity.

Spring open days

Beautiful bushland at Heathland Sanctuary in greens and pastel purples/pinks

Spring Open Days return in 2022 for lovers of nature to learn more about flora and fauna living in Bayside’s heathlands and reserves.

The Spring Openings are a chance to walk through areas of remnant bushland and coastal vegetation and get a closer look at Bayside’s indigenous plants as they flower in spring.

Join our knowledgeable volunteers between Sunday 28 August and Sunday 9 October for an exploration into Bayside’s best biodiverse sites- full of native plants and wildlife.

Wildlife walks

Join Friends of Native Wildlife for wildlife walks and online informationsessions and learn more about wildlife in Bayside. On walks, survey areas rich with biodiversity, look for Common Bronzewings, Spinebills and other birds and insects, and learn about the bats and more. Click the event below to book in.

Community Nursery Gala Day

Community nursery volunteers look at plants

Come and celebrate the Community Nursery’s last Gala Day on Saturday 1 October.

All of the volunteers at the nursery are knowledgeable and passionate and can help you discover what wonderful indigenous plants will help to turn your garden into a climate tolerant and wildlife friendly space.

Buy stock, enjoy a sausage sizzle and build your natives knowledge at Gala Day on Saturday 1 October, 9am – 2pm.
