Blacktown is a sea of orange, charcoal and white as the City gets behind the mighty Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants as they head to their first ever AFL grand final this weekend.

The roar of thunder was heard last Saturday as the Giants hung on to win a thrilling preliminary final against the Collingwood Magpies which ended in a nail-biting 56-52 win.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali MP encouraged the whole City to come out and show their support for Blacktown’s own GWS Giants.

“Let’s show our support for the GWS Giants by wearing the team colours and decorating the city,” said Mayor Bali.

“The Giants have always had strong ties to Blacktown City and we are proud to have them as one of our key sporting teams.”

The GWS Giants have experienced a season of ups and down, with some close losses and outstanding victories.

However it has been their resilience and determination which has seen them continue to fight their way through and earn a spot in the most important game of the season.

“On behalf of Blacktown City, I wish them the best of luck in this weekend’s AFL grand final. We are so proud that the team will play their first ever grand final this weekend and will be backing them all the way until the final siren,” Mayor Bali added.

The AFL grand final will take place this Saturday 28 September at 2:30pm, where the GWS Giants will go head to head with the Richmond Tigers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
