Blacktown City Pet Festival cancelled due to wet weather

Blacktown City Council has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Blacktown City Pet Festival due to adverse weather affecting Blacktown Showground Precinct.

The annual Pet Festival was due to be held this Sunday, 9 October at the Showground, but Council has deemed the site unsuitable due to recent adverse weather and the prediction of further heavy rainfall.

As a result, the venue could pose a risk to patrons and animals at the event and cause damage to the historic site.

Council staff assessed the venue on Wednesday and the decision was made not to proceed with the event.

Key factors:

• Damage to the venue with vehicles, trucks and other heavy vehicles required to set up and dismantle hired equipment

• Potential safety hazards for patrons walking throughout the precinct

• Vehicles unable to be parked safely at the old Showground Oval for overflow parking

• Safety of livestock

• Forecast of further heavy rain in the next 48 hours and into the weekend.
