Blue Mountains City Council launches new emergency resource for residents

Being prepared and knowing what to do in the event of a natural disaster such as a bushfire, extreme storm or a flood, is one of the best ways that you can protect yourself and your family.

To support local residents, Blue Mountains City Council has launched the Emergency Dashboard, a new online resource which provides up to the minute, emergency information that is tailored specifically to the Blue Mountains region.

By linking to lead agency websites such as NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service, Fire+Rescue NSW, Live Traffic and the Bureau of Meterology – among many other resources – the Emergency Dashboard allows Blue Mountains residents to access information about severe weather warnings, road closures, power outages and emergency contacts all in the one location.

Blue Mountains City Council CEO Dr Rosemary Dillon said: “As the impacts of climate change become increasingly obvious and concerning, keeping our community safe during natural disasters is one of Council’s priorities.

“Whether we experience severe storms, or we go through periods of drought and bushfires, the dashboard will enable residents to be as prepared and resilient as possible, for any emergencies that arise.

“I strongly urge all Mountains residents to save the web address at https://emergency.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/ and become familiar with the information you can access from the dashboard now. You never know when you’re going to need it in the future.”

The Emergency Dashboard has been modelled on other similar emergency resources that are currently being utilised by Councils around the country.

This initiative followed on from the highly successful ‘Get Ready for Summer’ online expo which Council hosted at end of October. The Expo brought together a number of experts in bushfire resilience and recovery from around New South Wales to share their knowledge and expertise with the community.
