Body of man located in South Coast

A body, believed to be that of a man who went missing while diving at Barraga Bay yesterday, has been located.

Police have been told the man went diving about 8.15am (Friday 27 December 2019), with a family member at Barraga Bay, about 10km south of Bermagui, on the state’s South Coast.

Officers from the South Coast Police District were alerted about 10am after the man failed to return, and a search was initiated.

Officers from the Marine Area Command’s Police Diving Unit attended the scene and searched until 7pm when the operation was suspended.

The search resumed this morning (Saturday 28 December 2019), with further assistance from the Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue, State Emergency Service (SES) and Surf Life Saving Australia.

Just after 12.15pm, the body of a man, believed to be aged 57, was located on rocks south of Cuttagee Beach near Barragga Point. He is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
