Body recovered after ultra-light aircraft crash in Lake Eildon

Officers from Search and Rescue and the Water Police have recovered the body of a woman following a fatal ultra-light aircraft crash at Lake Eildon.

It is understood the fixed wing ultra-light aircraft crashed into the water near Mountain Bay about 12.20pm.

The male pilot, aged in his 40’s, was picked up by a fishing boat and was treated by paramedics.

Local emergency services personnel including police, CFA and SES marine unit searched the area until specialist police arrived.

Divers recovered the woman’s body and the search has been ended for the night.

Officers will return to the scene tomorrow to recover the aircraft.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified and Search and Rescue would like to thank the local community, SES and CFA for their assistance during the search.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
