Body recovered from Bell River, NSW

The body of a man has been recovered from the Bell River in the state’s west yesterday.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District were notified following concerns for an 89-year-old man after he left a property on Mountain Valley Road, Neurea, about 1.45pm on Tuesday (16 November 2021).

Police commenced inquiries to locate the man as he had not been seen or heard from since.

About 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 November 2021), emergency services were called to the Bell River at Nuerea – about 50km south east of Dubbo – after reports the body of a man had been located.

Local police, together with NSW Ambulance paramedics, attended the location and retrieved the body from the water.

While he is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be the missing man.

A crime scene was established, and police are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial inquiries suggest the death is not suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
