Boosting Health Services: Stage 1 of Nightcliff Renal Unit Complete

The Territory Labor Government is improving access to quality health services with stage one of Nightcliff Renal Unit complete.

Hundreds of Territorians rely on life-saving dialysis treatments every year, and many Darwin locals rely on treatment at the Nightcliff Renal Unit Facility.

The $10.5 million renal unit is being delivered in three stages by local contractor Sitzler.

Stage 1 includes 32 dialysis chairs, a new patient consultation and reception area, new staff area including additional office space, improved parking facilities and site landscaping.

Stages 2 and 3 are on-track and are supporting more than 150 jobs, including 17 Aboriginal employees and seven apprentices.

Earlier this month the Territory Labor Government opened the $700,000 Pirlangimpi Renal Ready Room, which gives residents the option to remain on country for lifesaving treatment rather than travelling to Darwin where they are separated from family and community.

As stated by the Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory Labor Government is creating jobs and improving health services. The upgrades to the Nightcliff Renal Unit Facility will support more than 150 local jobs and provide a much needed boost to renal services.

“End stage renal failure is a life-threatening condition affecting too many Territorians. We are ensuring every Territorian can access quality dialysis services they need.”
