The Borough of Queenscliffe has released a concept design for a proposed bike park in Point Lonsdale, and is calling on young people to help workshop the plan.
The concept design for a new bike park would integrate a pump track and dirt jumps track alongside the existing Point Lonsdale Skate Park. Proposed features include challenging dirt jumps for skilled riders and a double-loop asphalt track usable by bikes and scooters.
Mayor Ross Ebbels said the concept design incorporates feedback Council heard during the first round of consultation.
“Locating the bike park alongside the existing Point Lonsdale Skate Park allows us to have a more flexible design that incorporates more community feedback,” Mayor Ebbels said. “A dedicated bike park will give our younger residents their own space to socialise, practice new skills and get active outdoors.”
Council is calling for riders to join an on-site workshop on Saturday 14 May to help Council engineers finalise a design and prioritise park features. Expressions of interest for the workshop can be submitted via Council’s website at queenscliffe.vic.gov.au/bikepark. Applications close at 11:59pm on Sunday 1 May.
Mayor Ebbels said community input would be crucial to finalising a design. Council would then seek funding opportunities to build the park, based on the priorities riders had identified.
“We want this park to be designed by young people, for young people,” Mayor Ebbels said. “If you’d use a Borough Bike Park, sign up to join a workshop and let us know which features are most important to you.”
