Botany Pool Upgrade Begins in May: Bayside

Bayside Council will begin work on stage one of the Botany Aquatic Centre upgrade after the pool closes for winter in April.

Stage one will see the return of the water slides to the pool, as well as a family friendly water play park sponsored by Sydney Airport.

“We are on track to begin stage one of the upgrade in May and then over the winter,” Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

“I want to thank Sydney Airport for coming on board and making this possible.”

Bayside Council and Sydney Airport formed a multi-million-dollar local partnership in 2018, setting up the Community and Environment Projects Reserve Fund to fund a variety of community and environmentally focused projects over the next 10 years.

The Botany Aquatic Centre upgrade is the first major project to be funded by this partnership.

The project will see an integrated family and water play area with an aviation theme that includes slides and a splash pad, for all ages and abilities.

“This is a big win for the Bayside community and we are all looking forward to next summer,” Mayor Dr Curry said.

Bayside Council is also working on plans and designs for stage two of the upgrade which will retain and enhance the open green space while the complex gets a major makeover.

“Stage two will be just as exciting with new buildings and amenity blocks, and upgrades to the pools as well as the café area,” Mayor Dr Curry said.

Bayside Council reconvened the Community Reference Group, established in 2019, to provide input and feedback on stage two of the project.

Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry, Councillors and members of the Community Reference Group were provided with an update on the proposed works when they inspected the pool facilities recently.
