Boundary realignment for improved service delivery

The NSW Police Force – in consultation with the NSW Police Association – has realigned the boundaries for four Greater Sydney Police Area Commands (PACs) to improve service delivery to the community.

As part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the delivery of police services and the safety and wellness of officers, changes are being implemented to the geographical boundaries of Cumberland, Parramatta, Ryde and The Hills Police Area Commands.

The boundaries have been altered with consideration to improving customer service through faster and more efficient response to the respective communities.

The changes come into effect after midnight tonight (Tuesday 4 July 2023) and will be implemented with considered continuity plans meaning there will not be any impact to service or response.

Deputy Commissioner Metropolitan Field Operations Mal Lanyon said the NSW Police Force constantly evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of services to prevent, disrupt, and respond to crime.

“The delivery of policing services for the safety of the community is always at the top of mind, and when we identify ways we can improve our customer service, that change is soon implemented,” Deputy Commissioner Lanyon said.

“The new boundaries for Cumberland, Parramatta, Ryde and The Hills PACs will more equally distribute our work in these areas and allow us to optimise and more effectively manage resources.

“We’ve carefully considered the geography and realigned the boundaries to better reflect the needs of the communities in these areas in line with current population, workload, and crime trends.

“It’s important to have local police dealing with and managing local problems, as the better our officers are connected with – and know and understand – their communities, the better they able to work with and serve those communities.

“We will continue to evaluate our organisational structure and overall performance to ensure we deliver the best services to our communities.”

Cumberland PAC now covers a smaller geographical area, which will enhance the level of service for local residents and businesses by enabling officers to manage their workload, crime trends, and community needs more effectively.

Parramatta PAC will now provide a more enhanced service for residents and businesses at Parramatta with officers covering most parts of the city and surrounding area, some of which had previously been covered by The Hills and Cumberland PACs.

Ryde PAC will take on a larger geographical area, including all areas north of the Parramatta River previously covered by Cumberland PAC. Ryde PAC will lose some areas which are better served by The Hills PAC.

The Hills PAC will no longer cover any parts of Parramatta allowing for officers to better focus their efforts on the more immediate surroundings at Castle Hill and Pennant Hills, as well as Cherrybrook, which had previously been covered by Ryde PAC.

Residents, businesses owners/managers are urged to follow their local PAC’s Eyewatch page on Facebook for information about policing and crime prevention. Police also use these pages to post appeals for information to assist with investigations into crime in the local area.
