At Cancer Council WA, we know a cancer diagnosis can impact your financial situation, making it difficult to afford a holiday, at a time when it’s needed most.
We now offer a Holiday Break Program, for West Australian advanced cancer patients and their loved ones, to take a break from the daily challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. This program allows visitors the chance to spend quality time together, relax and unwind at our Great Southern Hub.
About our Great Southern Hub
Located in Albany, the Hub was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of brother and sister, John and Joan Street.
John Street was a Perth businessman, who left a substantial gift in his Will to Cancer Council WA in memory of his sister Joan, who died of throat cancer.
What accommodation is available?
There are five self-serviced, fully furnished accommodation units ranging from studio’s to two-bedroom apartments.
The Great Southern Hub has a warm and welcoming feel, and has been described as ‘home-like’.
The Hub incorporates the natural environment with gardens, plenty of light and space.
In addition to accommodation, the Great Southern Hub also has support services and programs that aim to lessen the impact of cancer for West Australians impacted by a diagnosis.
Who can stay there?
Thanks to generous donations from our community, our Holiday Break Program is available to support West Australians affected by advanced cancer, by providing a one-off short break away at minimal cost.
This regional accommodation facility is also provided to families, friends and carers of those in palliative care at the Albany Community Hospice needing somewhere close by to stay.
