Breaking down men’s health barriers to exercise

Mitchell Shire is taking steps to reduce exercise barriers for men in our community as part of International Men’s Health Week.

For the month of June, Mitchell Shire Council is offering the first month free for full membership access to Kilmore Leisure Centre and Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre.

One of the wellbeing priorities for Mitchell Shire Council is decreasing rates of obesity, alcohol consumption and smoking. Council and its staff are committed to increasing physical activity, recreation and leisure.

International Men’s Health Week is celebrated each year in June and is an opportunity to highlight men’s health and what it means to be healthy.

Men are most at risk of heart disease, dementia and Alzheimer disease, cancer and diabetes.

International Men’s Health Week is aimed at reducing stigma for men to seek help should they need it.

The Mitchell Shire Health Profile 2017-2021 revealed just 32 per cent of residents in Mitchell Shire are in the healthy range, according to the Body Mass Index.

The full membership offer includes a health consultation and exercise programming and is open to men and women.

If you would like to take up a membership at one of the Leisure Centres, please call us on (03) 5734 0600 or visit our Leisure page for more.
