Brimbank DRU charge two men after Sunshine West armed robbery

Detectives from Brimbank Divisional Response Unit (DRU) Embona have charged two teenagers following an armed robbery in Sunshine West earlier this month.

Police were called to the shopping centre on Fitzgerald Road following reports a man with an acquired brain injury had been assaulted and robbed on 2 September about 11.40am.

The victim was allegedly persuaded to purchase cigarettes for the pair before he was led down a laneway and threatened with a knife.

The victim was assaulted to the face before his phone was stolen.

He was taken to hospital and admitted overnight for treatment to his injuries.

A 16-year-old male from St Albans was charged with armed robbery, robbery, unlawful assault, recklessly cause injury and assault by kicking

He was remanded in custody on 7 September to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Investigators from the DRU picked up a second offender overnight in Paisley Street Footscray.

The 18-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with armed robbery, robbery, unlawful assault, recklessly cause injury, assault by kicking and two counts of commit indictable offence while on bail.

He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, 15 September 2020.
