Bring in 2020 at Darwin Waterfront this New Year’s Eve

The countdown is on for Darwin’s biggest free New Year’s Eve bonanza at the Darwin Waterfront.

A soiree of free family friendly festivities to welcome 2020 will entertain from 4pm on Tuesday 31 December 2019.

The line-up for this year’s celebration includes a national headline concert, tribute stage show, local artists, national children’s act, roving entertainment, food stalls and two fireworks extravaganzas.

Aussie icon, Daryl Braithwaite returns to the Waterfront to headline for the evening. Braithwaite will take to the stage to perform his string of quintessential hits. Revellers can sing along to a nostalgic compilation of number one favourites including ‘One Summer’ and ‘As the Days Go By’ along with well-known classic ‘The Horses’.

The evening will continue to excite with a vibrant performance by the Australian Pink Tribute Show. The ‘Raise Your Glass’ act will have party goers dancing into the evening and through to the New Year countdown.

Well-known local performers Mel Gray Duo and Jony Levy will also entertain throughout along with world party rocker and international DJ Charly Templar, sure to keep the celebrations alive well into the night. Amy Hetherington will host the evening as the master of ceremonies with support cameos by DJ Rica G.

Kids can start the celebrations early with free children’s entertainment from 5pm including a Nickelodeon SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom Beach Party, roving face glitter artists and balloon twisters.

At both 9pm and midnight the skies will ignite with two ten-minute fireworks spectaculars.

Food stall holders will operate for the evening with a delicious selection of offerings including loaded spuds, cinnamon churros, natural smoothies, gourmet hotdogs, sticky peanut satays and more. Bring along your picnic spread, hampers and chairs and nestle in for the evening. Esky’s are welcome, but no glass or alcohol is permitted. Restaurants will also be taking reservations with front row seats of the festivities.

There’ll be undercover marquees available in the case that it does rain. Be sure to a pack a poncho – the show will certainly go on!

Patrons are encouraged to park in the CBD or catch public transport into the city for the evening then take a short stroll across the Sky Bridge or down Hughes Avenue and into the celebrations. Kitchener Drive will be closed from 3pm with limited on-street parking available along Stokes Hill Road, the Darwin Convention Centre and the Mavie Street Overflow.

On New Year’s Day the festivities will continue with sounds by the Recreation Lagoon. Darwin icon Max Fredericks will perform main stage from 12noon to 4pm.
