Bring on tinsel… a new competition for retailers this Christmas

Swan Hill, Robinvale and smaller town retailers are being encouraged to get into the Christmas spirit (and bring out their competitive edge) in a window display competition.

To enter, retailers can simply contact the Swan Hill Region Information Centre, as well as taking a before and after photo of their window display.

Retailers who choose to enter the competition will have access to an experienced merchandiser if they want tips and ideas.

A panel will award one winner from Robinvale, one from Swan Hill and one from a small town. Each will receive a $300 local gift card to use as they wish. All participants will also be invited to a post-Christmas workshop to further explore visual merchandising.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Economic Development Co-ordinator Muriel Scholz said the competition and visual merchandising workshop would help retailers with ideas to make their shops appealing and welcoming, and to make the region more festive in the lead up to Christmas.

“To compete with other businesses, other towns and online shopping, bricks and mortar shops need to use all the strategies available,” she said.

“Presentation and appeal is important. It does not need to be complicated, expensive or time consuming.”

This initiative is funded by the State Government’s Local Business Events grant, and supported by Council.
