Bringing CFOs Out Of Numbers

The Technical and Leadership Capabilities for CFOs program is shaping more influential, future focused finance leaders across the WA public sector.

Eve Tweedie firmly believes the role of a Chief Financial Officer is about more than numbers.

Eve is the Director Finance and Business Services at the Western Australian Electoral Commission. Over the past year, she has led strategic initiatives including an organisational redesign and values refresh to strengthen capability, performance and culture across the organisation.

After completing the leadership capability modules in Technical and Leadership Capabilities for CFOs , Eve says the program reinforced the broader role CFOs play in organisational leadership.

“It’s not just about the finances,” she says.

“It’s about lifting ourselves up, looking at the whole business and seeing how we can drive it forward. We can also influence culture, capability and change leadership to enable successful organisational outcomes.”

For Eve the timing of the program was valuable. She completed it while leading major organisational change at the Western Australian Electoral Commission.

She says the program reinforced the importance of leading through influence, collaboration and purpose.

“It was that real piece of bringing everyone together, creating alignment around the outcome and bringing people through the change process,” she says.

Big picture, she sees the program helping CFOs see their role differently.

“I think this program brings CFOs out of the numbers and actually helps them understand that they have a vital role in organisational leadership.”
