Brolgas star at Australian Indigenous Football Championships

Clive Palmer and QNI Resources have congratulated local representative football team the NQ Brolgas for an amazing performance at the recent Australian championships.

The team played 10 games over two days at the 2018 Australian Indigenous Football Championships in Brisbane earlier this month, advancing to the grand final which they lost 3-0 in a hard-fought decider against fellow Queensland side Ladu.

Five Brolgas were also selected into the Australian National Indigenous Football Team for the 2019 Arafura Games.

“As the youngest team in the championships, the Brolgas did themselves, their families and the North Queensland community very proud. The Brolgas have shown that through professionalism, pride and sportsmanship they can overcome all barriers,” Mr Palmer said.” Mr Palmer said.

“These are values that resonate very strongly with QNI Resources which is why we were delighted to support them in chasing their dreams.” Mr Palmer said.

Sean Brennan, Townsville PCYC Indigenous Sport and Recreation officer, said it had been a fantastic journey for a wonderful group of young women, made possible through the generous $15,000 donation from Clive Palmer and QNI.

“On behalf of the entire team I would like to thank Mr Palmer for believing and sharing in our vision for these young women,” Mr Brennan said.
