Our popular Household Bulky Waste Drop Off continues to go from strength to strength, with a jump in the recovery rate following our extended March Drop Off.
A report from the March event shows approximately 300.88 tonnes was recycled or reused, a 68.38 per cent recovery rate.
This is a 5.26 per cent % increase from last year’s event.
The improved recovery rate is due to Council being able to send unwanted lounges and armchairs to Mattress Recycle Australia (MRA).
MRA use these items to produce a tile that can be used in building construction.
Other notable results from the March Drop Off include:
• 1,760 drop-offs
• 440.04 tonnes dropped off
• 139.16 tonnes to landfill (up due to the extended event)
Of the items dropped off the breakdown was:
- 55% Up4Grabs items
- 11% metals
- 10% mattresses and lounges
- 2% e-waste
- 2% paper and cardboard
As Council now offers two Drop Offs a year, it will only be another six months until the next event in September.
Residents needing to dispose of items before then can take advantage of our on-call kerbside pickup.
