Bullying, Resilience and Cyber Security parent and community forum

International anti-bullying campaigner Jonty Shannon will host a free parent and community forum in Devonport next month.

Mr Shannon – who travels the world sharing how he worked through school bullying – will provide advice on how to empower victims to ensure they are able to control how they deal with bullying.

This session is for parents and the wider community with follow up sessions planned for students from Devonport, Reece and Latrobe High Schools.

It is a partnership between the Education Department, Latrobe High School, Reece High School, Devonport High School and supported by Devonport City Council and Latrobe Council.

Mr Shannon’s initial coping mechanism to deal with his childhood bullying was to fightback, which eventually resulted in his expulsion from school.

But, with the help of a school counsellor, Mr Shannon – an international technology entrepreneur – was eventually able to get his undiagnosed dyslexia treated and turned his academic performance around and focused on his emotional wellbeing.

Mr Shannon also began working with young people to help other students suffering from bullying.

The forum will be held in the paranaple centre from 6 pm on Monday 3 June. Registrations for the event can be made at Eventbrite and close 30 May.
