Bundanoon Pool re-opens Saturday 11 November

On the day Bundanoon Pool first opened back in 1960, as many as 460 locals eagerly passed through the gates. We’ve since made vast improvements with the addition of accessible steps and water warmed to an inviting 24 degrees. In preparation for the pool’s re-opening this Spring, on Saturday 11 November, we’ve moved-on the wild ducks and refreshed the whole facility!

“A lot goes into getting our pools pristine in preparation for the community to enjoy each season,” says James Borbone, Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Supervisor, Pools and Facilities. “Ducks treat the pool like a pond in dry conditions and rigorous cleaning is required.”

It’s been necessary to install a new pump, whilst a freshen-up of the facility along with some new equipment has the pool looking spick-and-span for the coming season.

“While we’re refreshing the facility, we also have to allow time for pool heating to bring the water temperature up,” James says.

Safe enjoyment of the pool is paramount and while lifeguards are on hand to keep a watchful eye, adults are responsible for supervising their children at all times.

“Locals took the initiative to build Bundanoon Pool to provide a safe and supervised place to swim after drownings in local rivers alerted them to the need,” James said. “Even if you feel you’ve heard it all before, we encourage families to check out the Keep Watch program before visiting your local pool, to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for the whole family.”

Get your laps up in the 25m pool or enjoy some quality time with your toddler in the wading pool with sail shade.

On hot days, trees provide welcome shade on the grassed areas. Pack the picnic blanket, order something from the Kiosk and make the most of time together with family and friends.

“We’ve put in slip-resistant accessibility steps with a handrail to make it easier and more inclusive for everybody to enjoy the water,” James says. Which you will most certainly want to do when the water is warmed to an inviting 24*. Show your NSW Companion Card at the gate for free entry when accompanying someone with a disability who requires attendant care support.
