Buy a cray for Australia Day 22 January

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

I encourage Tasmanians to support our fishers by buying a cray for Australia Day.

Tasmanians will have seen increased numbers of southern rock lobsters, or crays as we often call them, for sale locally as a result of the challenges in overseas markets, including COVID-19 disruptions.

The State’s natural environment provides ideal conditions for the southern rock lobster, and our commercial fisheries are an important part of Tasmania’s landscape.

Our fisheries create jobs, underpin communities, and importantly they provide us all with delicious local seafood.

Supporting our local fishers helps our workers stay in business, and it gives you something sensational to put on the table.

Rock lobsters are already available this weekend direct to the public at Dover, Cambridge, Margate Wharf, local seafood outlets and other locations.

Consumers are reminded that commercially caught rock lobster can be bought directly from fishers and from seafood outlets and must have a government issued tag attached and you should be issued a receipt.
