We warmly welcomed the Governor-General, David Hurley, to our offices in Mullumbimby today where we had an opportunity to brief him on the impact of the floods and the enormity of the recovery, not just for Council, but for our whole community.

The Governor General and Mrs Hurley also walked down the street to the Flood Recovery Centre at the Civic Hall, talking to business owners along the way.

At the Recovery Centre they talked with people about their flood experiences and their losses, as well as meeting the community groups, volunteers and agencies who are trying to help people through this difficult time.

They also then had lunch with businesses hosted by the Mullum Chamber of Commerce before leaving for a brief visit to Wilsons Creek.

Impressive work on the severely damaged Williams Bridge in Main Arm continued at full speed today. Council’s engineers and crews are making great progress with construction and estimate that this bridge will be restored within three to four weeks, weather-depending.

In the meantime, access to Main Arm is via The Pocket only. We will continue to liaise with residents on plans for permanent fixes to the Main Arm Road network.
