Cake expo delivers behind the scenes peek for Logan schools

Mabel Park State High School students Esther Kanamaharagi (right) and El-Shaddai Lokeni are looking forward to being part of the 2019 Queensland Cake Expo.

The secrets behind the stunning cakes produced by members of the Queensland Cake Decorating Association (QCDA) are set to be shared with local school students.

The association will host school tours with students from Mabel Park State High School and Logan TAFE as part of its Queensland Cake Expo at the Logan Entertainment Centre later this month.

The 2019 expo will run from Friday, August 23 to Sunday, August 25.

It will feature international and national cake artists, hands-on workshops, free demonstrations and cake competitions.

QCDA Cake Expo Co-ordinator Jackie Thompson said the school groups would be treated to a demonstration on cake-decorating techniques before being taken behind the scenes to visit some of the expo teachers in their workshops.

“By Friday afternoon, Welsh artist Emma Jayne will be halfway through her two-day modelling class of the puss in boots character and the students will be able to see first-hand how she creates her amazing tall chocolate sculptures,” Mrs Thompson said.

Mrs Thompson said baking and decorating competitions had been added to this year’s program.

“We are looking forward to receiving many entries from local schools,” she said.

She said the event was also open to adult participants with a full program planned.

“The expo is designed to help people learn exciting and innovative methods of cake decorating and how to work with new products,” she said.

The expo will open from 9.30am to 5pm on the Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm on the Saturday and 9.30am and 4pm on the Sunday.
