Call for donations to Giving Tree Program

The City of Brimbank is pleased to bring the Giving Tree Program to the community again this year.

The program is up and running from Wednesday 27 November through to Wednesday 11 December 2019.

Mayor of Brimbank Cr Georgina Papafotiou said the Giving Tree Program provides an opportunity for residents to give back to the community and donate a gift of non-perishable goods to help local people who might be struggling at this time of the year.

‘This is a great way for community members, organisations and Council staff to get involved and provide some practical assistance to people who may be feeling an additional strain as Christmas approaches.

‘Next time you’re out shopping, please consider picking up some items to donate to the program.

‘Council is working with local agencies to distribute the donations where the help is most needed, and we’re making it as convenient as possible to drop off items at locations across Brimbank.

‘Brimbank is a proud, vibrant, welcoming, and thriving multicultural community, but we also represent the second most socio-economically disadvantaged municipality in Greater Melbourne, and the third most disadvantaged in Victoria.

‘The Giving Tree Program is one of the ways our whole community can get behind a worthy cause and provide support that’s much needed,’ Cr Papafotiou said.

Suggested items for donation include:

  • Tinned beans
  • Rice, dry beans and pulses
  • Vegetable oil, peanut butter, or other nut butters
  • Rolled oats
  • Canned fruit or vegetables
  • Packet soups
  • Canned tuna in water
  • Tea or coffee
  • Dishwashing liquid
