Are you 19 to 25 and want to have a say on issues affecting people your age?

Corangamite Shire is looking for community-minded individuals to help shape how Council’s services support young adults.

Applications are being sought to fill two new community positions on the Youth Council.

Corangamite Youth Council is a way for young people to address issues and needs within their own communities and the inclusion of community representatives ensures young adults have a voice to share their experiences.

Shire residents in the 19-25 bracket are encouraged to nominate so they can represent their peers and help Council understand what they need, what their aspirations are, and what they would like to see achieved in their community.

The successful applicants will attend monthly meetings where they will be able to raise awareness of issues affecting young people, such as health, recreational or social needs.

Working with Councillors and Council officers, the positions offer a great opportunity to develop leadership abilities and make a difference in the community.

Community representatives will be able to learn new skills, including:

  • networking
  • understanding how local government works
  • confidence
  • team work
  • communication skills
  • project management
  • event management.
