Council is seizing the golden opportunity to support National Road Safety Week again this year, with its yellow ribbons making a comeback.

The large yellow ribbons are a reminder to slow down and abide by the road rules and they also honour those who have lost their lives on the road. They have been installed in high traffic roundabouts throughout the Camden area, including:

  • Hartley Road and Currans Hill Drive, Smeaton Grange;
  • Lodges Road and Liz Kernohan Drive, Elderslie;
  • Hermitage Way and Longview Road, Gledswood Hills;
  • Village Circuit and Healy Avenue, Gregory Hills;
  • Argyle Street, Camden;
  • Richardson Road and Elyard Street, Narellan;
  • Richardson Road and Liz Kernohan Drive, Spring Farm; and
  • Fairwater Drive and Harrington Parkway, Harrington Park.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said National Road Safety Week is an opportunity to remind residents of the impact their driving has on themselves and other road users.

“In 2021 there was a 2.6 per cent increase in the number of road fatalities across the country with nearly 100 people dying on our roads every month,” Cr Fedeli said.

“It’s so important to educate road users, both experienced and inexperienced, of the impacts of road trauma and how we as a community can reduce this

“I encourage the community to pledge to drive as if their loved ones are on the road ahead of them and take care on our roads.

“The safety of our residents and visitors on the road is paramount and Council is proud to run a road safety program throughout the year including Child Restraint Fitting Days, our Eyes on the Road monthly road safety message campaign as well as Drives for Learners in Macarthur – Log Book Run events, to name a few.”

National Road Safety Week, which runs from Sunday 15 to 22 May, is an annual initiative by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partnering road safety organisations and government organisations such as Camden Council to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
