From Thursday 8 October a car with state-of-the-art road monitoring cameras will begin a thorough inspection of MidCoast Council’s road networks.
More than 1,700 kilometres of sealed roads will be assessed.
The investigation will provide detailed video imaging and a condition assessment of the road assets.
The assessment vehicles are driven by experienced operators and will travel at normal traffic speeds. Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation. These vehicles are clearly identifiable and will operate seamlessly within normal traffic patterns.
If you find yourself following one of these vehicles keep a full car length at the rear to provide the cameras with a clear view of the road surface.
Information gained from this exercise will enable better management of community assets, enabling more effective maintenance and renewal strategies to improve connectivity, mobility and safety.
The last survey was conducted in 2023 and both sets of data will be compared to gain more insights into the road network.
Residents’ privacy during the program is of the utmost importance and cameras will only be pointed toward the road surfaces.
