Campaign to support domestic tourism and aviation

Council has committed $300,000 to a new campaign to entice more domestic holiday makers to fly into Cairns.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) has been given funding by Council for a campaign that aims to drive domestic travellers to Cairns through partnerships with marketing agencies and flight booking agencies.

Cairns remains a highly desirable holiday destination and consistently ranks in the top three Google travel searches. However, with international leisure travel not expected to return until the second half this year, competition for those domestic visitors will be highly competitive.

The aim of TTNQ’s campaign is to target the leisure market, which accounts for 64% of airport arrivals, through partnering with agencies that can both promote Cairns as a destination as well as facilitate bookings.

The partnership will attract high value leisure travellers through advertising campaigns and also target Cairns’ traditionally slower tourist seasons.

The investment complements a $300,000 commitment made by Council in late 2021 to support conference and business event attraction as well as the core funding of $2.4 million per annum Council provides to TTNQ to actively market the destination across all markets.
