Campaspe Shire Council has strengthened its commitment to responsible destination management after achieving Sustainable Tourism Accreditation through the Australian Quality Tourism Framework.
The achievement follows an intensive accreditation process led by Council’s Tourism and Events team, recognising organisations that operate responsibly and sustainably across environmental, social, cultural and economic areas, demonstrating a commitment to reducing negative impacts, supporting local communities, protecting cultural and natural assets, and following recognised industry best practice.
Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell said the accreditation was a win for the wider region and reflected Council’s commitment to safeguarding the area’s unique assets while supporting sustainable economic growth.
“Achieving Sustainable Tourism Accreditation is not just receiving a certification badge. It demonstrates that Campaspe Shire is committed to managing tourism responsibly, protecting the natural and cultural assets that make our region special, and ensuring the benefits of tourism are shared across our communities.
“As visitor expectations continue to evolve, sustainability is becoming increasingly important in travel decisions. This accreditation helps position Campaspe as a destination of choice for visitors seeking authentic and responsible tourism experiences,” Cr Mackrell said.
CEO of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, Lisa Patroni echoed the mayor’s sentiments.
“This accreditation is far more than a recognition of achievement; it reflects your Council’s ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainable development. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement and for inspiring confidence in the future of your region,” Ms Patroni said.
The accreditation provides independent verification that Council’s tourism initiatives meet recognised sustainability standards, strengthening confidence among visitors, tourism operators, investors and government agencies.
The accreditation is also expected to enhance opportunities for future partnerships, funding programs and tourism development initiatives, while providing additional support for local businesses that benefit from visitor spending across the shire.
“Council is committed to ensuring Campaspe remains a welcoming, sustainable and vibrant destination for future generations, and this accreditation is an important step in that journey,” Cr Mackrell added.
