Canberra Hub to put WA front and centre in the nation’s capital

  • Western Australian Government’s new Canberra Hub to open 27 March
  • The WA Hub to provide a base for Western Australians in Canberra
  • Part of Cook Labor Government’s commitment to always do what is right for WA

The WA Government’s new Canberra Hub is set to open on 27 March.

The Canberra Hub located on Brisbane Avenue in Canberra will provide a ‘home’ for WA in the nation’s capital and is a critical part of the Cook Government’s new Canberra Strategy to ensure WA’s interests are at the heart of the Commonwealth Government’s agenda.

Providing a space for in-person meetings, the hub will facilitate collaboration with Commonwealth and other State and Territory Governments, and is available for use by peak bodies, WA industry, not-for-profits and advocacy organisations.

The hub will support a new way of working with east coast counterparts, will help to champion WA’s priorities, enhance relationships and improve outcomes for all Western Australians.

The State Government has invested around $150,000 to establish the Canberra Hub, with ongoing lease costs at about $100,000 per year. The Hub will be staffed by one full-time receptionist, responsible for managing the Canberra Hub and its use.

The hub design incorporates an open working space and meeting rooms and has been designed to showcase WA’s diverse landscape.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“Western Australia is the powerhouse of the Australian economy, and we have a unique opportunity to influence the national agenda.

“We want to put WA front and centre on the national stage, at all levels, with the sole aim of improving outcomes for all Western Australians.

“The Canberra Hub provides a physical space where WA can leverage opportunities, raise awareness and promote our interests and priorities.

“It’s a key part of my Government’s commitment to ensuring WA’s voice is heard loud and clear in Canberra, and always doing what’s right for WA.”
