Cannabis seizure at Wingfield

Detectives from Serious and Organised Crime Branch arrested a man for drug offences following a search at Wingfield yesterday.

On Sunday 12 November, police conducted a search at a business premises at Wingfield and located about 57 kilograms of vacuum-packed cannabis in a vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle, a 60-year-old man from Two Wells, was subsequently arrested for trafficking a large commercial quantity of cannabis.

Detectives then searched his home address where other items were seized for forensic analysis.

The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on today. CO2300042288

Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson, Officer in Charge of Serious and Organised Crime Branch said, “Regardless of the commodity, the collective resources of SAPOL will continue to relentlessly pursue those who seek to illegally profit directly or indirectly from the drug trade.”

“The risk of being caught should not be understated and the penalties, which include imprisonment and confiscations of assets can impact not only those charged but also their families.”

This is a significant seizure of cannabis which equates to over 19,000 street deals which could be worth up to $500,000 in South Australia.

Trafficking commercial quantities of cannabis is a major indictable offence and attracts a maximum penalty of $1,000,000 or imprisonment for life or both.
