Capricornia Police are out in force patrolling roads and educating all road users to help reduce road trauma and dangerous driving behaviours.
As part of Queensland Road Safety Week, the community can expect to see high-visibility and covert traffic enforcement operations, as well as community engagement events from 17 to 21 August.
Recently, officers from Calliope Highway Patrol intercepted two motorists detected travelling at high speeds near Gracemere and Miriam Vale.
Around 10.20am on 15 August, police intercepted a blue Ford Mustang allegedly travelling at 144km/h in an 70km/h zone along the Bruce Highway near Gracemere.
A 43-year-old Gracemere man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
Around 10.50am, police intercepted a red Ducati motorcycle allegedly travelling at 162km/h in an 80km/h zone along Fingerboard Road near Miriam Vale.
A 43-year-old West Stowe man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
Both men were fined $1986 along with a loss of eight demerit points, and a license suspension of six months.
The Capricornia District has sadly lost 18 people on the roads this year, which is one more than the same time last year.

As part of Operation Interpose, police are bolstering high-visibility patrols right across the state, engaging with road users and enforcing the laws to deter dangerous driving behaviours.
Queenslanders can expect police – anywhere, anytime. However, enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours.
Driving under the influence, speeding, driving distracted or while fatigued, or not wearing a seatbelt puts your life – and the lives of others – at serious risk. These dangerous behaviours will not be tolerated.
