Car boot in rain? You bet

Warneet-Blind Bight Fire Brigade Captain Hans De Kraker is used to battling fires, but it seems rain may be proving to be his kryptonite.

Car boot in the rain? You bet

“Last year we had 55 cars booked in for our boot sale, then the rain started… only three turned up,” Hans said.

“We’d like to hold the car boot sale during the warmer months, but that’s when we’re needed most.”

The brigade’s car boot sale is part of an annual CFA fundraiser, a carnival with live music, kids entertainment and food.

“The car boot sale is a drawcard, something to get the people along,” Hans said. “It’s $15 to book your boot in, but so far every year it has rained.”

“In our first year, 35 cars were booked, but again the rain came and only a few people showed up.”

But he said the wet weather had failed to dampen the event.

“It’s still a great day. We’ve got lots on, with plenty for the family. It’s a real carnival atmosphere.

“The local community all pitch in too. We get the jumping castle donated, all the live music is local, so it’s a real fun day, and we get to raise a few dollars along the way.”
