The change follows reforms to card payment rules in Australia, with card surcharges being removed for payments made using Visa, Mastercard, eftpos and American Express.
This means that when you make a card payment to Council, you will no longer be charged an additional fee simply for choosing to pay by card.
Council has removed card surcharges across our payment channels, including online and phone payments.
What about other fees?
The change only applies to fees charged specifically for paying by card.
Other fees, such as service or booking fees, may still apply to some Council services. These are separate from card surcharges and are not affected by the changes.
Paying for parking
Service fees will continue to apply to parking payments:
Parking meters: Card surcharges no longer apply. The existing 2.88% service fee is now included in the amount displayed at the meter, so the displayed amount is the total amount payable.
PayStay: The existing 7.5% service fee will continue to apply when paying for parking through the PayStay app. The total amount payable, including this fee, will be displayed before payment is confirmed.
