Brisbane’s JMC Academy has dug deep to help three local musicians through the expansion of a special prize.
The creative industries provider offered a prize to a participant who attended all six Boost professional development sessions held by Logan City Council.
The sessions were part of this year’s Logan Live.
Participants competed for the opportunity to work with JMC Academy to record a song and produce a video.
Impressed by the talent on offer, JMC representatives decided to award prizes to three participants – Sarah Leigh who performs as Rae Leigh, Briana Dinsdale and Lisa Mapson, known as Maps.
Each winner will receive $10,000 worth of video and song production.
Hosted annually by Logan City Council since 2018, Logan Live aims to build the capacity of the live music scene in the City of Logan.
It does this through professional development sessions and a month of live music.
City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson Councillor Laurie Koranski thanked JMC Academy for their support of Logan’s emerging musical talent.
“This is the first time the prize has been offered and I’m sure it will be a tremendous boost for the three artists receiving it,” Cr Koranski said.
“2020 has been an especially challenging year for musicians and artists and it is great to be able to support them in this way.”
Council was unable to host the annual live performance program this year for Logan Live Music Month because of COVID-19 restrictions but the Boost sessions were held at the Logan Entertainment Centre.
Content this year was especially tailored around topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on musicians.
“This series, run over six sessions in August and September, was designed to give artists the tools they need to survive and thrive in the music industry,” Cr Koranski said.
“We hope Sarah, Briana and Lisa enjoy their recording experience with JMC and we look forward to returning once again to host live performances in the City of Logan in 2021 as part of Logan Live Music Month.”
