Carer charged after teen left unattended in vehicle at Hurstville, NSW

A support worker has been charged after allegedly leaving a teenage client unattended in a car at Hurstville yesterday.

About 10.30am (Monday 18 January 2021), members of the public contacted police after a teenager was found allegedly locked inside a Toyota Hiace in a car park on Forest Road.

It’s alleged the 16-year-old, who was in a wheelchair, was left alone in the vehicle for an hour. The vehicle’s air conditioning was on at the time.

Officers from St George Police Area Command conducted inquiries, which led them to a care home in Gymea.

Police spoke with a 24-year-old man, who is a support worker, before issuing him a court attendance notice for leave child/young person in motor vehicle causing emotional distress; and child not adequately supervised.

The man is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on 16 February 2021.
