Carinity Brownesholme retirees roll out green carpet

Residents of a Highfields retirement village have rolled out the ‘green carpet’ for a fun leisure activity.

Carinity Brownesholme residents were excited to recently receive and christen a new indoor lawn bowls carpet.

“The bowlers were keenly looking forward to the ‘rollout’ of the new carpet as the older mat is a bit too fast for social bowlers,” said Carinity Brownesholme Village Manager, Vaughn Whittingham.

“The new mat is recommended for social bowlers and situations where the mat needs to be rolled up for storage between use – the scenario we have at Brownesholme.”

The bowls carpet was generously provided through a grant from Progressive Community Crows Nest Ltd. and funded by Heritage Bank branches in Crows Nest and Highfields.

Vaughn said the Brownesholme Bowlers welcome new and experienced bowlers and spectators, with beginners provided plenty of helpful hints as they develop their skills.

“The Brownesholme Bowlers meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in the village hall for a bowling session – with teams selected from those who attend on the day – and a morning tea held between games,” Vaughn said.

“The atmosphere is always lively with competitive banter and lots of encouragement and laughter.”
