CBD parking: First 30 minutes now free

Parking in central Horsham is now free for the first 30 minutes as part of a suite of changes to metered zones.

Following community feedback, Council adopted changes to its parking plan at a meeting last month.

While it will take some time implement all of the improvements, including the relocation of meters and alteration to signage, new rules that allow 30 minutes of free parking in two-hour bays started this week.

Despite the changes, people must still enter their vehicle’s registration in a meter, or via the Blinkay mobile phone app, to claim a free parking period.

Also from this week, free parking has been made available for accessible parking permit holders. There is no need for blue or green card holders to enter the number plate into the meter or Blinkay App but time limits still apply.

How do I claim my free 30 minutes?

Enter your registration number into a meter or open the Blinkay App.

Why do I still need to use the app or meter to claim free time?

We do not know if you have been in a parking spot for five minutes or five hours if you have not registered.

Do I get 30 minutes free in each zone or is it just in one?

You only get one 30 minutes a day so register where you first park. You can still move to the other zone with in the 30 minutes. If you’re staying longer add extra time in the zone you are in.

Am I allowed to use 30 minutes free more than once a day?

No, you only get one free 30 minutes a day.

Is the free first 30 minutes part of my two hours for the zone?

Yes. The meter or app will only accept a further payment up to two hours.

If I only use 15 minutes free in one zone, can I move to the other and use the remaining time?

Yes, you can move and use your remaining time. But the time does not start again and you do not have to register again if you are still in the 30-minute free period.

How will the app manage the free period?

When you log in you will see the free 30 minutes is already added. If you only need this time just press the green button or add extra time if you are staying longer.

Once you have claimed you free time for the day it will not offer you free time on your app until the next day.
