CCTV of vehicle released, reappeal after 2019 public place shooting in Balmain

Police have renewed an appeal for public assistance as investigations continue into a public place shooting in Balmain East in August 2019.

About 9pm on Thursday 29 August 2019, police were called to Pearson Street, following reports of shots fired.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and commenced inquiries under Strike Force Bemix.

At the time, witnesses reported hearing gun shots before a white hatchback was seen speeding off after hitting a parked vehicle. Two men were also seen running from the scene.

A white Hyundai Accent hatchback was recovered on The Terrace, Birchgrove, the following day (Friday 30August 2019).

The vehicle had bullet holes in the passenger side and crash damage. Following a forensic examination, blood was also found inside.

As inquiries continue, strike force investigators have released CCTV vision of a red Mazda seen driving in the area shortly before the shooting.

Police are continuing to seek assistance to identify a man seen loitering in a nearby underground car park, who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man depicted is described as being of medium build, with short dark hair. He is shown wearing black clothing, black shoes and carrying a shoulder bag.
