CCTV released after man found with gunshot wounds in bushland, NSW

Police have released CCTV footage in an appeal for information as investigations continue into a shooting in Sydney’s south.

Just before 4am on Sunday 29 March 2020, emergency services were called to bushland off Heathcote Road at Lucas Heights, following reports of an injured man.

On arrival, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command found a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his legs.

He was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives established Strike Force Kiewarra to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of their inquiries, detectives have released CCTV footage of a petrol tanker travelling on New Illawarra Road, approaching Heathcote Road, in an appeal for public assistance.

Sutherland Shire Police Area Command’s Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Andrea Panozzo, said investigators were keen to speak with the driver of the vehicle.

“We believe the driver of this petrol tanker, who was travelling in the area at the time, may have dash cam vision of the incident, which would greatly assist investigators,” Det Insp Panozzo said.

“We strongly urge them to come forward so we can piece together how this 30-year-old man came to be in bushland suffering a gunshot wound.”

Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Kiewarra investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
