CCTV released after Oakleigh fires

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a series of fires in Oakleigh back in July.

The first fire, on Friday 8 July, occurred at a premises undergoing a renovation at a mall of Chester Street in Oakleigh about 4.45am.

Investigators believe an offender forced the front door of the premises and started a fire inside the premises before fleeing.

The shop was extensively damaged.

Investigators believe the same offender returned to the mall on Monday 11 July about 5.30am.

He attended another premises under renovation, smashed a glass door and set a small fire before leaving.

The fire did not take hold and the man returned to the address about 6.30am and lit another fire which damaged the store.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incidents.

Detectives believe the incidents are linked and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have seen suspicious activity.

Investigators have released CCTV and images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.
