CCTV released as police investigate South Yarra homicide

Homicide Squad detectives have released CCTV in an effort to find a number of witnesses as part of their investigation into a fatal stabbing in South Yarra last Friday night.

Passers by located a man with significant upper body injuries on Malvern Road, near the intersection of Essex Street about 11.05pm on 18 September.

They contacted emergency services and the 40-year-old Prahran man was conveyed to hospital, however he died shortly after.

Police conducted a significant CCTV canvas of the area and now believe two males were involved in an altercation on Malvern Road shortly beforehand.

Investigators are releasing CCTV footage which shows the male involved in an incident with a motorised scooter rider two minutes before the stabbing.

The male appears to walk in front of the scooter and is knocked to the ground.

The scooter then pulls up shortly after and the rider and male both appear to be uninjured.

Police are also releasing vision of a white van that drives past the two males during the fatal altercation.

Detectives are appealing for the rider of the scooter and the van driver to come forward.

Investigators have also released footage of the male walking around the Essex Street area shortly before the incident and are hopeful someone may be able to identify him.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Malvern Road and Essex Street around 11pm on Friday night who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

Local police have increased their proactive patrols in the area and will continue to have a highly visible presence in the South Yarra community to ensure that residents are safe and feel safe.
