Police have released CCTV in an appeal for assistance as part of an investigation into a series of tool thefts from vehicles in Sydney’s west.
Officers attached to Parramatta Police Area Command’s Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation in June 2026, following reports of a number of tool thefts from vehicles across several suburbs.
Police have established thefts from vehicles occurred on seven occasions between Sunday 21 June 2026 to Monday 6 July 2026, in the following locations:
- Hewitt Ave, Greystanes (Sunday 21 June 2026)
- Bogalara Road, Toongabbie (Saturday 27 June 2026)
- Lennox Street, Toongabbie (Saturday 27 June 2026)
- Hammers Road, Toongabbie (Saturday 4 July 2026)
- Thallon Street, Carlingford (Sunday 5 July 2026)
- Yates Ave, Dundas Valley (between Saturday 4 July 2026 and Sunday 5 July 2026)
- Carolyn Street, Greystanes (Sunday 5 July 2026)
An attempted theft also occurred on Avon Place, Toongabbie on Saturday 27 June 2026.
In each incident, a man is seen arriving at the location in a white Toyota Hilux, which is believed to have been fitted with stolen registration plates, before he breaks into a vehicle, steals tools and leaves the scene.
Registration plates used in the later thefts are believed to have been stolen from Tulip Street, Greystanes, between 7.30am on Wednesday 1 July 2026 and 5pm on Thursday 2 July 2026.
The approximate value of the stolen tools is between $40,000 and $60,000.
As inquiries continue, police are releasing CCTV of a vehicle and a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170-190cm tall, with a medium build.
He is depicted wearing a navy and orange hi-visibility hooded jumper, dark coloured pants, gloves and dark-coloured shoes.
The vehicle is described as a dual cab Toyota Hilux utilty, with distinctive features, including a dark grey front bumper, dark-coloured rims without hubcaps and a canvas or soft vinyl tray cover.
It also has a ute tray headboard without a sports cage and is fitted with a small orange safety beacon on top of the vehicle.
