CCTV released following Port Melbourne attempted armed robbery

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad are appealing for public assistance to identify a man involved in an attempted armed robbery at a licensed premises in Port Melbourne on last week.

Police have been told the man entered the Bay Street hotel shortly before 2.15am on Wednesday, 22 May and approached a staff member.

He then threatened the staff member with a firearm and made a demand for cash.

Staff were unable to access any money and the man subsequently became agitated and left the premises.

No one was physically injured during the incident,

Police conducted patrols of the area but were unable to locate the man.

At the time of the incident, it is believed he was wearing some kind of dark material draped around him like a cape and a pair of dark coloured underpants on his head.

He also had on a black t-shirt, light coloured pants and white runners.

Investigators are today releasing CCTV which shows the man leaving the hotel after the incident and are hoping to speak to anyone who may have seen the man in the area in the lead up to or after the incident.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have dash cam footage or further CCTV.
