Charles Darwin University

High staff turnover, inadequate preparation for remote work, and under-funding are a few of the barriers to properly developing an effective remote health workforce across regional and remote parts of Australia. Aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the complex issues around retaining a remote workforce have forced the closure of clinics, and if not checked will lead to a health crisis across regional and remote areas. Health professionals and researchers from across the country are meeting in Alice Springs this week to discuss how to address these issues and utilise the considerable research evidence available to steer remote health services away from disaster.
