Celebrate National Agriculture Day

Get behind National Agricultural Day on Wednesday 21 November and celebrate all the great work that the agricultural industry does for the region.

The organisers behind the National Agricultural Day are encouraging people to get involved by doing one or more of the following four things; enter the AgDay photo comp, share the love on social media, host an AgDay event, or rock a bright green shirt.

Cr Jenny McKay, whose hinterland division is home to many regional producers, said National Agricultural Day is a great day to raise awareness for the agriculture industry.

“The food and agribusiness industry on the Sunshine Coast is valued at $700 million and features more than 900 companies, including some of Australia’s leading innovators and exporters,” Mrs McKay said.

“With a 23% increase in the economic value of agriculture over the last decade and demand expected to grow significantly, the Sunshine Coast is rapidly being recognised as one of the most dynamic locations for new food, beverage and agribusiness investment in Australia.

“We encourage the Sunshine Coast community to support the local growers markets and continue to buy local strawberries to help the industry.

“The more we get behind local businesses, the better it is for our community.

“Supporting local, is great for everyone!”

Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN) General Manager, Emma Greenhatch encouraged the local community to get behind National Agricultural Day.

“Our farmers are the reason we enjoy safe, nutritious produce all year round and National AgDay is a great way to celebrate our local farmers and producers,” said Mrs Greenhatch

“On the Sunshine Coast we have a long and proud tradition in agribusiness and a growing reputation for innovative collaboration and co-operation in our local industry, which we should all be proud of.”
